Newly qualified Crane Controllers require a period of mentoring before they become eligible to undertake a workplace assessment.
We can assist you, by supplying experienced Crane Controllers to work alongside the newly qualified CC's ensuring that they do not pick up any bad habits and to offer their real world experience first hand. This service helps us to promote best practices in the workplace and helps to make the Railway a safer environment for all of us who work on or around it.
One of our Crane Controller mentors will shadow your newly qualified candidate for the FULL length of each shift.
The mentor will:
- Go through all paperwork prior to work commencing.
- Identify any hazards whilst travelling to and from the track.
- Ensure on / off tracking is conducted correctly.
- Check the Operator briefing.
- Ensure that the operator and machine paperwork is valid and sufficient.
- Mentor the work being carried out safely and to best code of practice standards.
- Be onsite to offer full support and advice to the candidate.
The core of our company services are Work site Assessments. Our Assessors are approved by the R.T.A.S after undergoing the CC assessment approval procedure.
We can assess your MC's and CC's in the following competencies, depending on their new NCCA MC/CC card and training experience:

During the Assessment the candidate will be assessed to Network Rail required Standards on:
- Good knowledge of safe working practices.
- Identify any hazards whilst travelling to and from the track.
- Ensure on / off tracking is conducted correctly.
- Excellent safety Critical communication skills
- Ensure that the operator and machine paperwork is valid and sufficient.
- Ensuring that the work is being carried out safely and to best code of practice standards.
- Any changes in work site conditions are dealt with promptly and competently, e.g. passing engineering trains etc..

We can create site specific lifting plans supported by extensive site diagrams, hazard lists, load assessments and risk assessments to complement work plans and Method statements.
All of our lifting plans surpass the requirements defined as a minimum, set down in the Railway Infrastructure Contractors M & E Engineers Networking Group Code of Practice. (C.O.P 11 Planning and Executing Lifting Operations). Any Crane Controllers holding a CHRANE Ltd. Lifting Plan will have a full understanding of the method of work, hazards and responsibilities.
